Description
hand modeling tutorialAnother REEEEAAAALLY long file. The image is a little taller then 500x15,000
It's another quicky tut. Not a whole lot of detail in the text descriptions. Not a total novice tutorial (doesn't specifically tell where tools etc. are)
So you'd need to already have a basic understanding how using the program to follow it. Otherwise, should be helpful.
enjoy.

Hello! I'm an administrator at Crinale.com and we are currently creating a tutorial index.
We ask you kindly, may we include this one?
You will of course be fully credited and we'll link it back to you.
Many thanks,
Sandgrinder

Thanks Athey, there's quite a few hand tutorials out and about but this is one of the better ones!

I always wondered why it feels like it takes longer to get to the top of the tutorial than it does to get to the bottom. Lol, huge awkwardly sized picture,

Oh, lol.. I was gonna' say. I mean, the hand looks great and all, but, I didn't see a whole lot of edge loops. Bending the fingers and thumb would look edgy as far as that model goes. For a quick "hand-job" (hehe) it looks good
I personally like to build the palm then extrude the fingers. From there I'd tweak my verts to create the natural loops for proper deformity.
Unlike you, I'm a MAYA freak Max's interface would throw me off.

i myself think maya's layout throws me off. Cause all i do is 3ds. Hehe
It's kinda like the PC and Mac war. They both suffice it's weather you started with one or the other (or maybe someone persuaded you one is the better of the two)
I myself hope to learn both.

Yea, I hear ya'...
I used to play with Max, I dunno'.. Soon as I got ahold of MAYA and played w/ it, then, was taught how to use it it stuck I'm sure it's the same for you.
Now, if I could only get BACK into modeling again, oy! I just get all worked out and tired by the time I'm home again. D:

well, i think modeling characters are the hardest! Because moving object's are so complex, it has to be perfect. I like atheys tutorials. there good

No no! I never said they were bad! To each their own I have my ways and she has hers
. As for the modeling characters part, yea, it's hard. But that's what makes it so great! Why bother doing something easy... then everyone would be doing it, ya' know?

takes practice. you just gotta make a whole lotta Junk, before good stuff starts appearing.
Helps to know alot about how things should be laid out too.
knowledge + practice = good stuff

good modeling, but you could work more on topology i think. i cant tell you what is wrong (if anything really is) and how to fix it, but i'm sure that you could improve it
anyways i also dont know how you will use your model.
but good work tho

Oh yeah - the top of the hand sucks Just looking at it to put this together I could see several things I need to change, but it's good enough. The palm didn't come out too bad though.

I usually get the thingers right, I usually mess up when it comes to the thumb. I think I got it kinda right in my last attempt though [link] , I even managed to make the bottom of the fingers slant which I didnt even consider at the time, weird lol.

I've always hated modeling hands... hands and feet are the bane of my modeling existence, Thanks for the tut, it helps!!

lol- same here. Nearly half my models are using the exact same pair of hands (with minor tweaks) cuz I refused to model another pair. Eventually had to Figured when I did, I'd 'record' the process.

same thing i do. I have one "good" hand that i just use for everything (and Foot) there's really no need to make a hand and foot over and over after you first good one. unless your going to make an even lower poly hand. In that case I'd would just see how well "Optimize" modifier deals with your existing hand and then just correct any problems.
