Edit: Easier way to do this, since im to lazy to m ake a new tutorial. I have only done this in photoshop.Click on the character layer while you hold ctrl, it will automatically select the shape, then go up to the layer with the texture and click on the mask icon.

K. That's what i did. yours just seemed... darker for some strange, weird, and unimportant reason.

Im sorry but i cant remember where I got it, ive had it for years XD and I dont feel like uplaoding it because I do not own it and as long as I dont know who made it, it would be wrong, but im sure I got it from dA somwere.
I did change the texture I got to a degree were its so hard for me to find the original one xD

ummm, you don't actually have to copy the layer n turn it black to have it's outline with you. It can simply be done by holding ctrl + clicking on the thumbnail of the layer n it'll automatically select whatever is in that particular layer
Also, if you want to have multiple layers outlined selected, you can just add holding down alt with ctrl and click on all the layer thumbnails you want selected

I hate to comment like this, but holding down the alt key and clicking the line between the texture and image layer seems to do the trick too
In any way, I ADORE your style, colouring, tutorials, etc, etc.

Personally I just like to group the texture layer with the character layer. Press ctrl + g on the texture layer and voila :3

You can also use "create-clipping mask" which makes it only visible on the layer below it.

i don't mean to be picky but how do you create the texture layer? do you just randomly draw to make it look texture-y-ish or do you have to click on something and it'll appear? if i have to create the layer by myself what brush tool should i use? sorry i'm being so picky i just really want to know how this is done

you drag a texture photo over or copy paste it on a layer over the drawing.

Their is an easier way to do this: Just create a clipping mask between the texture layer and the character layer. Bam, your done. I do it by holding "alt" (windows) and floating between the layers (a paint bucket looking icon pops up) but you can also click on a layer and select "create clipping mask."
