Description
First of all, there's no internal mods, it's an indoor gun. It goes on the counter next to the beer.I'm still working on it, but I needed to put something together quick for a party tonight at Fortress Maximus which I know will be as drunken Nerf'd up as the last one:
[link] and this was after a lot of people had cleared out...
Anyway, I still need to bend the trigger bar enough to fit closer to the gun, and i need to make some kind of trigger bar or rings on the ends of the rod. The Stampede trigger is so light that you can easily hold the rod between your fingers and move it a half inch to fire. Can't wait to try it out tonight!

Thanks! I love Stampedes, and I'm upset that Hasbro isn't making a new N-Strike Elite one. We get the Firestrike and Stryfe, and that's about it for heavies.

Intresting... 70 round drum? Is that 2 connected 35 round clips or must you swap them after 35 rounds?
Also, was Fortress Maximum as Transformers reference? Or was it purely coincidental? XD

Yeah, you still have to switch over to the other 35 round drum mag, but it's a lot faster than putting 35 darts in the empty one. Here's a video of somebody else making one on Youtube: [link]
The Fortress Maximus is probably a Transformers reference, I don't know. My friend who owns the house calls it that and he collects Transformers, so probably.

Ah I see. BTW, Fortress Maximus is probably the holy grail of any TF collector. It's the biggest Transformer ever produced.

It was pretty nuts last night. I found a barstool next to the counter and protected the beer. It was a bring your own (beer and nerf) party and there were about 5 stampedes, 3 rayvens, some long strikes, mavericks, dart tag guns, and a few odds and ends. I pulled some of the more tame pictures from the facebook album and put em on my photobucket: [link]

Ooh, a Nerf + Alcohol party? I like this idea. Must find a way to implement it here.

You should! We do it often, they're a lot of fun!

Derp. I forgot that I also have the shield for it.

Sweet! With that configuration, the shield actually makes sense.

It does and it works! I tried it out last night in a corner behind the pool table and could launch darts across the room into people's laps:

That is an awesome rig man - I love it! Several weeks ago I was looking at WW2 gun mounts and envisioned two Stampedes mounted side by side, upside down to give easier access to the clips - similar to the 20mm configurations the Uboats used. I couldn't think of the the best way to deal with the extending the trigger mechanism. Your design for the extended trigger is perfect.
Awesome sauce.

Thanks! As much as I like the location for putting the tripod mount, it's impossible to set the gun down because it's terribly imbalanced with all the batteries and the ammo drums being on the back side of the tripod. It wanted to tip over all night. If I were to make upgrades to this design, I would want to try to balance it a little better, maybe by removing the section of the Stampede between the stock and the grip and mounting the tripod just behind the original grip/trigger. Or I might just call this one done and see what I can do with a Vulcan, 18v batteries, six barrels, and a 400 round chain fed from a backpack, Jin Roh style.

That would be insane. I've always wanted to do some kind of motion cam body rig for the Vulcan similar to Marines in Aliens -- that would be perfect for the backpack fed 400 rounder...

Yeah the Aliens Smart Gun would be a fun Nerf build for a heavy gunner. I like to think bigger though. I'd like to build a sentry gun with a Vulcan to keep the cats off the counter at night. [link] Like this maybe. Something you can just plug into the laptop and fire up the software at night...

That would be awesome. Many of my current design considerations are based on practical battlefield use for HvZ or other organized NERF competitions. Those automated sentries would be great for stationary defense around key buildings and areas - and for Last Stand battles. You definitely have some very cool ideas!

Thanks! I"m an ideas guy more than I am a fabricator, but I'm getting there. I'm sure we have HvZ here but I don't really know what the Nerf scene is like here these days. We mostly just get together for "bring your own alcohol/nerf" parties and blast each other around the house. I talked to an old engineering friend of mine and hopefully this summer we can make some bigger crazy stuff. The one thing I'd really like to build besides a sentry turret is a suit of power armor with dual vulcans for arms. How fun would that be?

That would be hella fun! For your Stampede and the heavy weight in the back -- consider converting to AA batteries. You can get some Trustfire rechargeable AA batteries that charge up to 4.2v each - and use 4 of those in the Stampede. I am converting 3 Stampedes right now. You can also use the same batteries in the Rayvens -- they're awesome.

Yeah I have some Trustfires and I couldn't get them charged for my wife's Rayven in time for the party. I'm more interested in putting an 18v tool battery on the stampede instead. Like this: [link]
The other problem with the tripod is that the two 35 round magazines hit on the tripod and all the weight rests on it when you try to set the gun down. I think moving the tripod to the other side of the ammo might balance it out a bit.

MarxistMark In reply to Hypercats [2012-05-21 05:23:39 +0000 UTC]
That looks really cool. I am currently using the Trustfires because the entire upgrade system including charger is relatively inexpensive for college-budget customers. I need to look into alternative battery/charger combos that I might be able to purchase in bulk.
Moving the tripod mount makes sense. When I first envisioned the dual Stampede rig I was thinking the upside down configuration might help with the clips hanging down, interfering with the tripod. I kept encountering that issue with sniper rifles - the bigger clips hitting the ground when using a bipod in the prone position. You can't go with a smaller clip on your rig because it would negate the whole 'overwhelming-70-rounds-of-ammo' aspect of the design.

Yeah, I could see flipping the Stampede over to accommodate a tripod better. My only issue with it might be that clearing a jam might be a little trickier.
You should look at Harbor Freight for cheap battery-charged power tools and 18v batteries.
1 18v battery and a charger for 30 bucks? Yes please! [link]
