Description
Edit: Part II (digital inking) now available!: [link]Also, eyes tutorial: [link]
Starring Cloud from Advent Children!
Yes, I know that sometimes sketches are Never So Clean as they are in this case... I'll talk about digital inking sometime in the near future in another tutorial. But this is for those who sketch cleanly or who go back and clean up their pencil sketch by erasing and redrawing the lines.
Feedback appreciated! (was it clear? more/less detail? What other stuff would you like to see?)

I saw one of your tutorials a while ago from the top favs on the deviantart home page and checked it out. Could not have been better so I scrolled through your other tutorials. That evening I accidently left the computer on and my sister came and shut it down. I lost the amazing tutorials. Right now however, I was sketching something out and looking for this exact tutorial. I amble from blackeri's 7th deadly sin of lust to a handful of other deviations until low and behold I find you and your amazing tutorials. ^^ Many thanks for just being awesome like that. And umm, Im faving this so I dont loose it again

Great tutorial! Heh I've never been able to make my pencil sketches look clean enough to color without first digitally inking them. Thanks for showing how it's done properly

This is a great tutorial. I have read many line art tutorials online and never come accross one mentioning the blur effect (eliminating the rough edge). This is a great idea and I can't wait to use it on my next line art pic.
Thanks again,

I have to thank you personally. I was trying to find new ways to color my pictures, and this tutorial (with the multiple layer function and layer coloring tricks) helped me aim higher standards for my latest works. Thanks a million! I even used some more of your tricks from this tutorial to make my current Deviantart ID. Frankly, even that picture had to be the best-looking image I ever made.

THANK YOU SO SO SO SO MUCH FOR THIS TUTORIAL! I was browsing around other Deviants' favorites and I saw this of yours and decided to take a look. .....
I'm so happy about this because I've been trying to figure out why that when I want to color something on the comp that was originally in pencil it doesn't come out looking that great.
... But you tutorial really helps alot! thank you so much! you made my day!

nice tutorial
but, what does locking the layer transparency do?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
joulee In reply to indiandude [2006-03-13 22:38:48 +0000 UTC]
it's super-useful! Basically, it won't let you color on areas that are transparent (ie, that currently don't already have color on them.) So you can paint the past, lock the transparency, and just shade the base without worrying about having to erase later.

Advanced critique? Lets see...the steps are displayed clearly, the colors aren't blinding, the subject matter is very helpful, and the exampled work came out beautiful. It's hard to find fault here. I'd say you're amazing!
