Description Next

This is an inside look at how groups function, mostly to answer questions by users who don't know what features will be included or how they will function.

-.- There are probably some pretty gruesome typos in here, I haven't proof-read this just yet, please feel free to point out any you see.

I implore you to ask questions, the more you ask, the more detailed and the more useful I can make this

FAQ:
>> The number of users who can participate in a group (submit art, blogs, favs, etc) is unlimited, even for unsubscribed groups. You do not have to join the group (become a groupie) in order to participate. There is currently a limit of 100 groupies for any unsubscribed group.
>> Correspondence Items, when closed, are removed from the group message center. The system tries to reduce clutter, thus the messages can be seen in the group log if needed for reference purposes
>> Only 2 groups appear in the collections drop down at this time
>> Tips and tricks for changing the search results while searching for artwork to submit to a group can be found here: [link] , "gallery:username" for normal stuff and "gallery:username/*" for everything including scraps =Pyritie
>> There is nowhere where you can currently get a group during this alpha testing phase, you have to be hand chosen by an admin to receive one

I have read the article (and faved it, too, so I can find it again) but some of the details still seem about as clear as mud to me. My daughter and I have several clubs and anticipating Groups coming out of Alpha she and I closed two of them but still have multiple clubs. If each deviant has to apply to become a Group and is only allowed to convert a single club, will there be an extensive time before other clubs owned by the same deviant being allowed to convert? This is one of things confusing me. Thanks so much for your help

Yeah I don't know about that one... I hope very much that over time people will be allowed to run multiple clubs, it makes no sense to restrict community engagement, but I can understand that they don't want people to create clubs just for the fun of it, creating work for them and abandonded accounts on dA. So I guess (and it's just a guess) that the restriction will be temporary.

I agree... some deviants will just start clubs and abandon them. Our clubs are established and it would be nice to be able to convert them all.

Ewwww, every mod has to vote? That can cause massive delays. I hope that setting can be easily screwed with if the creator wants to be the approver/elect somebody to be.

Anyways, thanks for doing what the mods refused to. This clears a lot up and helps any suggestions during testing that I may make be more well informed.

Yes, that setting is very easy to change (auto-approve, vote, not allowed are all on the same drop down, so you can easily switch between them ). I'm working on getting the details of the backroom up since that is what people seem to be the most curious about, I just don't have the time at the moment >.<

Absolutely, anything to help keep people well informed

Also I think some separators would be nice in this. To keep things more separated etc.

I see the names like "contributors", "moderators", "groupies", and "members". Are there any guidelines as to what every group of them is allowed to do in a Group or is it up to the founder while setting the privileges?

parallellogic In reply to Irena-N-Photography [2009-09-03 06:40:44 +0000 UTC]

From my understanding, the founder has control over what permissions each member level has (groupies & moderators). Groups that pay more money (subbed vs unsubbed) have greater control over what specific permissions each section has, for example moderators can either post blogs and edit them, or can't interact with the blogs at all; alternatively, with a subscription, the founder can control independently whether mods can post blogs and if the mods can edit the blogs. I'm fairly certain that example is true, but I haven't actually seen the founder control set, so I can't tell you for sure what is available and what is not.

It'll be kinda outdated by that point, but thank you , I'll have to consider updating it when the time comes ... or at least finishing it

This helps me understand this group system better. I was confused before and thought that all clubs had to convert or all new club accounts would automatically be a group account. Thanks very much for the new insight

The way I see it it's just proper communication, they'll probably end up making an official page that covers all this and more when the system is released, I'm just trying to fill that gap in the meantime

Thank you
