*** This is technically a re-posting of this illustration. I plan to do so with all of my Potter art work building up (hopefully) to having some new stuff to share there after. So if you feel like you've seen this before - you probably have. On the upside, I'm sharing it at a larger resolution and without the DeviantArt watermark on it now **

And we made it through book 1! These are the final drawings I did for "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". It was a bit of a milestone for me when I did these drawings, knowing I had actually made it all the way though the first book. And as I write this post, I am in the midst of working on book 3. So, there's still all of book 2 to go before things slow down with the postings again. But I am very happy with these refreshed looks back at illustrating this story. Anyway, as for these drawings themselves... there were a couple "throwaway pieces", and in retrospect I think I was being a little tame with the drawing of Voldemort... but it's all good. I was thrilled with the drawing of Dumbledore chocking on the ear wax flavored Bernie Botts Jelly Bean. I think from here out, there will be a noticeable improvement in my vignette drawings. It's like it took me this book to find my footing, and after the next one all I do is progress with it.

Fun Fact: The picture of Dumbledore next to Harry's bed would have been a contender for the final painting of the chapter. I thought that scene was lovely and would have liked to have given it more than the drawing. But I had to show Quirrell, Voldemort in his head and the mirror... I felt there really wasn't a choice. Frankly I think this chapter could have been 2 - first the action, the second the after math and resolution in the school. But oh well. I'm still happy with the drawing, though it's scaled WAY down from what it would have been as a painting. If I go back and add some art after I've finished the series (yes the entire series, so it'll be a long time before I get to it if I do it) that scene will probably be the first one I do.
