Description
Each Drawing varies in side though they are no larger than 8 x 14Pencil on Paper
*** This is technically a re-posting of this illustration. I plan to do so with all of my Potter art work building up (hopefully) to having some new stuff to share there after. So if you feel like you've seen this before - you probably have. On the upside, I'm sharing it at a larger resolution and without the DeviantArt watermark on it now ***
So there were a couple things I changed having learned from my experience doing the illustrations for Book 1 that I made a clear decision to change in book2. Only one of them I followed through on properly - which was a definitive size. If you saw a stack of the vignette drawings from book 1, it looks like a pile of scrap - each drawing is a different size and some of the drawings are just cut out of a larger piece of paper. For book 2, I created a template, and had a specific sized tablet of paper I used - 16 x 14 - and I split each page in 2 limiting each vignette to fit within that size. So, while each vignette still varies in size comparatively speaking, each one has the same maximum size. The other thing I wanted to enforce... and I did alright, but I wanted to limit the number of drawings I do for each chapter. There were a few chapters in book 1 that I got carried away with and just kept drawing. Which in one way is fun, but it keeps me from moving forward. So, there are fewer drawings in this book than the last, though only by a few. And there were times I still got a little carried away
As for the drawings themselves...? Yeah, here they are. You can see the drawn version of the slip case painting of Dobby - it shows the illustration more properly lit in terms of the scene it's from. I'm fairly happy with the way everything turned out for the first chapter of the second book.

Ah yes. Dobbie, the elf I've wanted to see.
And your art style gives him plenty of justice.
Also, seeing Dudley freak out over a pondering Harry
reminds me of those made up incantations he made in
that chapter. Ah, memories.

Good times eh
When I first read and saw the representation of Dobby in the movie, I was just accepting of him - not really liking or disliking. But by the time I got to drawing him for the first time, the character had endeared himself to me. I look forward to illustrating him more.

Oh yeah. They sure were.
I will admit that I thought his design was strange for an elf.
But I liked him anyway for how he stood out compared to
some other characters.

I would have loved to have seen the cake being splattered LOL. But great detail as always.

Well, that happens in chapter 2. Don't get me wrong, I didn't draw it as it splattered, but you will see the aftermath of it

I adore the details of the cake tray. I love your work, but its the subtle details of the glasses crystal like effect that are just amazing to me.

That's quite sweet of you to say - thank you I believe that details are one of those driving factors that help make an illustration better. Being true to a story... or even being true to an item in the illustration - making it look and feel like a real place with real things.

I can only imagine how Dudley will get wider as the books progress. I really like the black and white version of the Dobby slipcover because it's more descreet and harder to see like what we get in the book. I wasn't sure what Aunt Petunia's violet pudding was supposed to look like so I'm glad that you included it.

Yup, wider and wider
Thanks - the colour version is fun in it's own way, but I like the drawn version of Dobby in the bushes better. At least in terms of the scene it's portraying.
Yeah, the pudding was a tiny bit of a mystery to me when I read the story as well. I had to do a little research to see how things worked.

Thank you! I actually really enjoyed doing the drawing of Dobby in the bushes... yes it was more time consuming and detail oriented, but peaceful
