You got to have one of those buttons on models like these otherwise some MMD SJW would go ballistic on you. ^^

Excuse me,
How do you get to the TransformView?
And Deform Op?

Trackdancer In reply to kohaku-chi [2015-11-29 21:21:35 +0000 UTC]
TransformView - accessed via the 'T" button on the PMDView window.
Deform Op - is accessed via one of the buttons on the top menu bar of the TransformView window.

This resulted very useful. Thanks a lot!
But I do have a problem: It seems to be impossible to turn from invisible (non-transparent 0) to completely visible (non-transparent 1) .
At least in the Transform View window, I move the slider to make a material appear, but it DOESN'T!
Is there any other way to do this? Or is it impossible?
I'm trying to add facials to swap textures. (I have also moved a little bit the polygons of the copied invisible material, but it doesn't appear when moving the facial sliders either)

Trackdancer In reply to ToaJahli [2015-11-13 19:09:49 +0000 UTC]
You can make materials appear or disappear. Just think it though logically and use the right edit window selection. The bother is that the choice of multiplication and addition (from the top of my head) are mislabeled. These days though I use '1' to make things visible and '1', invisible.
Texture swapping isn't done with this type of slider/facial. You need a different type of slider/facial to do this and it is covered under another tutorial in my tutorials gallery.

I'm trying to get something to fade in but when I go to edit in in the facial's menu, it already has a 1 in the transparency column and it just won't fade it ;-;

Change the '1' to either a '0' or '-1'.

Cool beans...
But I'm stuck on something.
I tried to make my model's coat disappear and I did all the steps, but when I go to test it out, it's not doing what it's supposed to do. It just stays the same.
How do I fix this?
π: 0 β©: 1
Trackdancer In reply to KastaNik [2015-09-16 22:22:47 +0000 UTC]
Try using '1' for the visible variable and '-1' for the invisible.

Okay, Now I'm stuck...
Here's my problem: I'm trying to make a facial from invisible to visible, and the part I'm trying to work with has a texture. I'm trying to give him demonic eyes by the way.
Do I have to delete the texture or something, or can I keep the texture and I just have to do it differently?
π: 0 β©: 1
Trackdancer In reply to AI-Sparklez [2015-06-15 20:25:48 +0000 UTC]
Normally you just set the material to be invisible ('0') and make it visible ('1') using the facial. This will work regardless whether the texture uses a tex map or not. One thing you do want to check is that the material isn't occupying the same 3D space as something else. ie. in your case the existing eye or pupil material.
Making demonic eyes incidentally, might be easier done by just changing the color of the base material from white or grey to red.

Thank you for your efforts Trackdance. You're the best in the west for tutorials. I was going to start a you-tube tutorial but Thanks to your efforts, I can stay completely low profile and not have to make tutorials for English community.
My grand kids beleive I wouldn't make a good tutor on you-tube anyway, because they think I'm too damned scary and their retarded father agrees with them. (I'll deal with those ungrateful little **** later)
But for now, I just thought I'd give you some input on your tutorial
This method you teach is one way to make things disappear but the better way is to use addition setting andΒ 0 on most and -1 on non transp and edge outline color, under A. This method will allow the object toΒ retain its color as its fading and can also give you the freedom with other sliders allowing things to reappear with + numbers for more complex slider operations. For example; If you want pants and belt to disappear but on another slider you wish the belt to reappear for a dress, this method will allow that. However multiplication with 0 wont.
I hope you dont mind my input but this method I mention is employed in most 3d applications and I found pmd\x editor to be no exception.
I know you would have understood what I've explained but I've added a pic so people understand what addition setting with -1 means

Thanks for your feedback on our tutorial method and explanation on the alternative (and probably better method) on doing this sort of thing. Much appreciated.
Taking the discussion further, I would beg to differ with your 'grandkids'. The Overseas MMDC is in need of good tutorial makers from people with solid knowledge of the media and technologies involved; whether these are done in traditional written form, the comic book style format as used here or as video tutorial on venues such as YT. One of the big problems with the tutorial scenes are the number of tutorials out there done by people who actually outright get it wrong or only disseminate partial information and this actually ends up causing a lot of harm and creates a lot of bad/poor modeling practices.
If you are are inclined to teach and it is evident from your post that you have a strong background in the tech involved, then by all means 'do it'. It will help the community grow, it will get good info out there and in itself it is a rewarding experience. I've been fortunate in my MMD experience to have the opportunity to directly interact with some of the best people in the community, and we've had similar discussions about the need to promote and disseminate knowledge to the younger and newer members in the community who just have an amazing amount of energy and creativity. They just need a little proper help in the 'know-how' department.
This is something that the Japanese MMDC actively does and does very well; for those that know, to teach those that don't, and they are way ahead of us in the curve in this aspect. Granted their demographics is generally more mature than ours, but we have an advantage in that our demographics are in general younger and more dynamic and I personally believe that it is to every ones benefit to cultivate this resource. So please if you can, toss your hat into the ring with whatever you can bring to the table, some of us 'old hands' (and at least one of my regular correspondents is a 'grandpa' too) can really do with the 'assist.
Cheers.

When I test it out in PMX editor it works just fine, but when I try to use it in MMD it appears well until I go to the cam/light/accessory tab. The models look choppy and they are visible again (with some parts missing, others are pure black) Do you have any idea of how to fix that?Β
π: 0 β©: 1
Trackdancer In reply to Alyssa1D [2015-01-25 22:10:18 +0000 UTC]
Pure black - that's from the outline of the part that's made invisible, remove that (the outline) and your problems should be solved.

Sounds like you're doing it wrong.Β
When you're editing a facial as opposed to creating one from scratch, you must have the vertices of the existing as the focus of your editing. Use the object selection panel to do this.

It is possible that your PC and the PMD program don't like each other for some reason. In which case, unless you can contact the programmer, you're screwed.

When I was making my dress go from inadvisable to visible, at the 50% mark, it would show up just a little then when I get to 100%, it'll turn all white. Do you have any idea why?

You haven't given me enough information to even make an intelligent guess as to what's going on here. But I'll give it a try ... since I'm currently bored.
"no new facials show up" - populate the English side of the facial name field also, this should solve the problem
"my models eyes turn invisible" - seems to indicate that the facial is actually working but you may have made errors in the set up. Double check in PMD and test it out there first. If it works properly there, it should normally work in MMD also.
